Heating

Your student accommodation energy bills are often covered by rental incomes. However, what incentive is there for students to responsibly manage their own energy use? Take a walk around the campus and often rooms both residential and educational have windows open and the heating is on. In many cases the rooms are unoccupied.

With the latest government targets, you are now encouraged to invest in systematic improvements to cut your carbon emissions. So where do you start?

  • Are you ready to meet government energy and carbon reduction targets?
  • Are students leaving their heating on when not in their accommodation?
  • Do you want to cut your heating costs by up to 25%?
  • Are you looking for a low cost way to reduce your campus energy bills?

How can Chalmor help you?

All research points to space and water heating using the majority of energy in buildings. Reducing wasted heat by not heating rooms which aren’t being used can be one of the most efficient, and effective way to cut costs and emissions. However maintaining rooms at a comfortable temperature is another means of preventing energy waste and cutting out staff and students opening windows to respond to the overheating. But how can you improve systems that are already in place?

With its bespoke software and patented technology, the electronic Thermostatic Radiator Valve (eTRV) is tailored to meet universities needs. The inbuilt features allow Facilities/Energy Managers to take full advantage of zonal controls in both existing and new build systems, eliminating the need for high costs and investment in whole building management systems. Designed with Universities in mind, eTRV has a lock feature which allows your team to fully program the valves to suit the specific room and user, and then lock it to prevent anyone tampering with the settings. The users are able to press the grey button on the front of the eTRV to call for extra heat as and when needed.

In the Bristol University’s student accommodation, the eTRV’s are programmed to come on in the morning and evenings, while setting to ECO during the day and to FROST during the night. If students returns early from lectures or simply haven’t left their room, they can press the push button on the front of eTRV to gain one hour of comfort temperature heat.
