Thanks to the solar system, we’re now looking at having a negative energy bill! ⚡💰
I’ve often spoken about the financial benefits of installing solar panels, especially as energy prices have risen. 🌞💡 So, in November 2023, I decided to practice what I preach and install solar at home. Now, nine months later, I’m thrilled to report that the results have surpassed my expectations! 🎉
We have no gas in the house, so our energy needs are fully electric. Thanks to the solar system, we’re now looking at having a negative energy bill! ⚡💰
Given that we have a heat pump, my goal was to design a solar system that would maximize export income during the summer, allowing us to offset our winter energy use when solar output is lower. ❄️☀️ I specifically tailored the system to take advantage of the new Intelligent Flux tariff from Octopus Energy, which offers great incentives for exporting electricity back to the grid. 📈
So far this year, as of the first week in September, we're over £900 ahead, and I expect to have around £1,000 saved up for winter, which will easily cover our energy use. 💸 Designing a system to take full advantage of export tariffs has been key to achieving these financial gains! Even during the winter months, when solar generation is lower, it has still made a significant contribution. 💪
While current export rates for domestic customers are higher, business rates are also improving. And remember, businesses have the flexibility to shop around for the best deal, as you're not required to export electricity back to the same supplier you buy from! 🔄🏢
